Globoesporte.com, one of Latin America’s top sports portals, revamped its app for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. The update brought exclusive sections for Brazil’s national team, enhancing the experience for passionate football fans.
Globoesporte.com, one of Brazil’s largest sports portals, was preparing to launch exclusive content for the 2018 World Cup.
How could we integrate dedicated sections for each World Cup team into the app? The goal was to ensure that fans had easy access to team and player information.
The Menu, primarily used to access Brazilian League teams, was the most preferred navigation option among users. We tested adding the World Cup teams' flags above the national league clubs.
Then the Menu was reorganized to include World Cup teams at the top, expanding the navigation scope and aligning with user expectations.
User testing revealed difficulties in identifying flags without labels. As a solution, we created two new buttons in the menu: 'Teams and National Teams' and 'World Cup,' improving access and navigation.
Even with the World Cup nearing, many users preferred accessing updates about their favorite clubs, such as Flamengo and Corinthians. This validated the separation of the League and World Cup sections in the Menu.
This project went beyond football, showcasing the rich sports ecosystem of Globoesporte.com and the comprehensive experience it provides to sports enthusiasts. During the event, we observed a significant increase in users accessing the menu with flags and labels, while the page featuring only flags saw minimal fluctuation. These results highlight the importance of clear labeling for enhancing user navigation.
